Maryland Medicaid-Approved
Doula Training
Sweet Bee Services® is on the Maryland Department of Health's list of groups the state lets certify doulas (as of September 2026). When you earn your Sweet Bee™ certification through Sweet Bee Academy™, you can use it to enroll as a Maryland Medicaid doula.
What does "approved" mean?
To get paid by Maryland Medicaid, a doula must be certified by a group the state approved. Sweet Bee Services is one of them. You can see the full list on the Maryland Department of Health's Doula Provider Information page.

Can doulas get paid by Medicaid in Maryland?
Yes. Maryland Medicaid pays doulas for prenatal visits, support during labor and birth, and postpartum visits. Birth support pays $800 for a birth in a hospital or birth center. Medicaid does not pay for home births.
You will need to do two things to get paid:
Enroll as a doula with Maryland Medicaid.
Sign up with the Medicaid health plans (MCOs).
Sweet Bee Services has signed up with all nine Maryland Medicaid health plans, so we know the steps. We help you start this paperwork in Module 2 of The Bridge™.
How do I get certified with Sweet Bee?
Apply. Tell us about yourself and reserve your seat.
The Foundation™. 6 modules. A new one opens each week, so it takes about 6 weeks.
The Bridge™. Mentorship, a written exam, and an oral exam. On average, students finish in about 3 months. You earn your Sweet Bee certification at the end.
You do not need any birth or medical experience to start.
How much does it cost?
The Foundation™ is $3,000. A $1,000 deposit reserves your seat, and payment plans are available. The Bridge™ is $197 a month.
Ready to start?
Families in Maryland need more trained doulas. You can be one of them.
