Meet Morgan

Hello! I’m Morgan Shelaine

Prenatal Yoga Instructor & Holistic Wellness Coach

Leah: Hello, Morgan! Thank you for joining us today. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what inspired you to join our doula team?

Morgan: Of course! My name is Morgan Reid, and I am a prenatal yoga instructor. I was referred to the Sweet Bee by Sonya, with whom I collaborate at Oasis PT. I was inspired to join the team because I've heard about the positive support that you provide to your clients, and I'm someone who values compassion and care for my clientele. Working with birthing individuals during this transformative time in their lives, I recognize that their anxiety levels are often high. I love being able to provide a space that brings calmness and compassion, meeting them where they are, and providing the support they need.

Leah: That's wonderful, Morgan! We're excited to have you on board. As the prenatal yoga instructor, what do you hope to bring to our team and the families we serve?

Morgan: My intention is to bring a sense of calmness and compassion to the team, along with a focus on mind, body, and spirit awareness and connection that is needed to navigate this experience. Through prenatal yoga, I aim to provide a space where clients can find relaxation, develop strength, and connect with their bodies and their growing babies.

Leah: Building rapport with families is essential in our work. How do you approach building a strong connection and trust with the families you work with? Are there any specific strategies or techniques you use?

Morgan: I believe that effective listening is crucial in building trust and connection. Most often, families want to be heard, understood, and provided with answers if possible. During our sessions, I give my undivided attention and ask open-ended questions to encourage them to express their thoughts and feelings. Creating a safe and non-judgmental space allows families to open up and feel comfortable sharing their experiences and concerns.

Leah: We have like-minded approaches, Morgan! Part of why I’m so glad to have you on the team. How do you ensure that your support is tailored to each family's specific needs? Can you tell us a bit about your approach to client care?

Morgan: Each time I work with a family, I begin with an initial conversation to understand how they are feeling emotionally and physically since our last meeting. I ask about any changes or new developments and inquire about what they would like to focus on during our session. By constantly asking questions and actively listening, I ensure that I am meeting their specific needs and providing personalized support. Flexibility is key, as I'm always ready to make adjustments as needed.

Leah: Love it! Flexibility is key because we support families during both joyful and challenging moments. Can you share an example of how you have helped a family navigate a difficult situation?

Morgan: Absolutely. I had a client who was extremely anxious about deciding between a cesarean birth or a vaginal birth and was worried about the size of their baby. During our session, we spent most of the time discussing their concerns and exploring various options to help them make an informed decision. By providing a supportive space and brainstorming together, we were able to alleviate some of their anxieties and come up with a plan that felt right for them.

Leah: Self-care is essential for doula work. How do you prioritize self-care in your life, and how do you plan to support your fellow team members in their self-care practices?

Morgan: I strongly believe in maintaining a work-life balance, so I stick to a schedule that includes designated working days and days off. During my time off, I make sure to engage in activities that I enjoy and find rejuvenating. As a yoga instructor, I can offer yoga and meditation sessions to both clients and my fellow team members. Additionally, I'm open to planning group outings like hiking or salsa dancing, where we can enjoy some quality time together outside of our work.

Leah: That's fantastic, Morgan. Finally, what are you most looking forward to as a member of our Sweet Bee team, and how do you envision making a positive impact on the families we serve?

Morgan: I am truly excited to work closely with the families we serve and conduct group yoga classes that cater to their unique needs. My aim is to provide them with the tools and techniques to support their well-being throughout the pregnancy journey. Through yoga and mindfulness practices, I hope to empower families, helping them find strength, relaxation, and a deeper connection with themselves and their babies. By offering this support, I believe we can make a positive impact and contribute to their overall experience.

Leah: Thank you, Morgan! We are thrilled to have you as part of our team. And for those who would like to learn more about you, where can they find more information?
